The Virtual Cane is an ultrasonic proximity sensor equipped with haptic feedback. It is able to warn a user of obstacles in the way with varying modes of vibration. This technology has an immediate application in helping those who have suffered partial or complete loss of sight. There is a high demand for haptic devices to be integrated into today’s society and this is one of the more glaring areas that could use some innovation.
