Researchers at the University of South Florida were awarded a National Science Foundation (NSF) Major Research Infrastructure grant (NSF award #1229561) to acquire a virtual reality system with an integrated split-belt treadmill on a mobile base with included motion capture cameras. The system was installed and fully functional as of November, 2013.
Installation photos in reverse chronological order
May 8th, 2013: moving everything out of the way for pit construction.
June 13th, 2013: moving everything further out of the way for the pit construction.
June 21st, 2013: dust shield went up, working space was blocked off.
June 26th, 2013: holes bored to test the ground below the pit site - everything checked out fine.
Research continued, but the AC started dripping because the outside humidity was condensing, so all electronics were covered up.
June 27th, 2013: digging started.
July 2nd, 2013: framing for the concrete floor started.
July 5th, 2013: concrete floor poured.
July 8th, 2013: framing of the pit wall.
Some of the wall was poured.
July 17th, 2013: the remainder of the concrete was poured.
July 19th, 2013: the concrete is drying, but needs to sit for a month.
August 27th, 2013: once the concrete dried, the tile was replaced.
September 14th, 2013: everything moved to the South side of the lab so the floor could be waxed.

September 17th, 2013: Everything moved to the North side of the lab so the other half of the floor could be waxed.

Friday, September 20th, 2013 at 4:30pm: told that the CAREN would be delivered Monday morning at 8:00am.
We rearranged the lab to make room for the delivery of the four crates.
Monday, September 23rd, 2013 at 9:30am: crates arrived.
Each crate weighed between 1200 and 2500 lbs.
They barely fit through the doors.
It took some creative thinking to get them in the doors, particularly with the light pole directly infront of the lab doors.
Slowly over the next couple weeks, we rearranged and sorted everything.
October 14th - 21st, 2013: installation is progressed.

Spring, 2014: curtain installed and lab rearranged and cleaned up.
